We have been a collaborative duo for the past 10 years. Together we create whimsical, multi-media folk art fish, using wood, metal, and acrylic paint. Our pieces are whimsically patterned after fish that are native to the area (Musky, Northern Pike, Walleye, and Blue Gill). The creative process begins with my initial design of the fish, then shaping and finishing the wood, welding to make interesting eyes, and sheet metal work for the fins. Judi paints each fish being inspired by color combinations that are unusual and often uses the wood grain to direct her designs. Each one-of-a-kind piece is clear coated for durability and is designed to be suspended from chain.
We discovered that by combining Rod’s skills in woodworking and metal art along with my background in the fashion industry, we could create art that is appealing and that reflects the natural world, which we both love.
When not at Bear Paw Pottery on the tour weekends, we’re available at our home studio in Rhinelander. Please call!
